Those Nasty Spots & Stains

In the world of upholstery cleaning, there is always the chance that the product you put on your sofa, couch or leather may do permanent damage to it.  I can't tell you how many times we've had customers to call complaining about the stain or spot that they tried to fix themselves.  They tried products they bought from the pet store, hardware store, or otherwise.  Only to find that the product that they used actually did more damage than good.  Why does this happen?  Because the products sold in these places are not fool-proof.  They are really not especially designed for certain fabrics or weaves.  Even if your piece of furniture comes with a warranty in terms of scotchgarding or protector prior to your bringing it home.

Every spot or stain is different.  Every type of fabric handles those stains differently.  Each stain or spot has a classification of resolves or chemicals that work to remove them specifically.  So, buying a product over the counter and expecting it to work on every piece in your home can be a disaster.

Here is where a good education is needed and how.  It takes training and experience to know how to deal with various fabrics and various chemicals to remove the spots and/or stains from the fabrics.  Some take an acid based product to remove them, others may need an alkaline based product to remove.  And then there's that thing call PH.  It is a level of phosphorous in the use of a product and cleaning that can work wonders if you use it right, or it can wreak havoc if not kept in check.

Sofa cleaning, couch cleaning and leather cleaning furniture is a job for an expert, that is, if you care about your furniture.  When it comes to great upholstery cleaning services in Chicago, it is best to call professionals who have been doing this for years and who offer A-1 service.

Professional steam cleaning is not real expensive if you choose the right company.  Spotting and/or staining may be a little extra depending on the fabric and the type of stain you have.  This is especially the case with pet stains, pet odor, and pet dander.  These are a bit more difficult to handle and control, so you'd want to have a professional upholstery cleaner to handle it.

There are many Upholstery Cleaning Chicago companies in our area and in the suburbs.  Choose one after you've done your research.  Good reviews, years of service, type of equipment, courteousness, friendliness and expertise, means your job will be done and you will be proud of the upholstery cleaning services you're paying for.

Sofa, Couch or Leather Cleaning 773-885-8528

Image
In the world of sofa cleaning, couch cleaning, or leather furniture cleaning your choice of chemicals to clean is endless.  But, which ones will work best for your fabric?  That is the question that faces the trained and certified professional upholstery cleaner.  In determining which one to us he might want to spot test an area of the fabric first to see how that fabric will respond to cleaning.  He must be very careful not to overuse the product in testing just in case there might be adverse reactions in the fabric.  A good technician who has been cleaning furniture professionally for a long period of time, can look and feel a fabric and tell the best solution to use on its surface to bring about a vibrant, bright, cleaning and fresh smelling sofa or couch.  Generally, most fabrics on the market today can handle steam cleaning.  Some fabrics might be a bit more sensitive and shouldn’t be given moisture at all.  Most natural blends fall into this category, cottons, silks, wools, etc.  Even some leather furniture depending on the bonding and the fiber should be handled free of moisture if possible.  It certainly takes a trained technician to put it together right to make your furniture look nice and new and for the cleaning to last.

Should you use Scotch-guard or furniture protector?  It certainly does help in every way you can imagine.  What protector does is provide a layer of insurance.  What do I mean by that?  It is the first line of attack against spotting and stains.  Instead of the spill or what have you leaking into the precious fibers of your sofa or couch, the protector acts as a first line of defense in that it absorbs or stops the spill from penetrating beneath, causing deeper wounds if you will in your furniture.  This works especially well, if you have kids, pets, and just the regular everyday traffic flow from visitors and/or guests.

The application of protector may cost a little bit more, but it is well worth the effort in the end.  Your sofa or couch can be bombarded by so many different outside factors, weather, temperature, humidity, sunlight, human touch, animal deposits, hair, and the list goes on and on.  While protector is not completely fool-proof, it certainly does assist in keeping your furniture looking its best.  It’s like paying that 25 cents at the meter when parking so that you don’t get a $100 fine.  When protector is in place it keeps your costs for maintenance very low.  It doesn’t hurt also to regularly remove your pillows and vacuum the entire area to keep dust and debris from formulating.

When you want it done right, seek the upholstery cleaning services in Chicago of The CleanUP Guys.

Upholstery, Leather and Sofa Cleaning Chicago 773-885-8528

With just the right measure of tender loving care, and just the right measure of chemicals, and just the right know-how and patience, an upholstery cleaning service can work wonders with just about any fabric.  It is always a smart idea to do a bit of spot testing or fabric testing to see how it will respond to cleaning before proceeding with the full treatment.  Making sure the PH level is just right, the temperature of the water and/or steam, along with the right chemicals can make a piece of furniture, sofa, couch, chair, leather upholstery look almost brand new.  Nothing can clean away wear and tear.  That is something that happens to just about every fabric.  After awhile over use, sunlight, and other factors such as human oils and perspiration, a sofa can start to look extremely worn.

It is always a good idea to maneuver furniture in a home so that it is not always in direct sunlight.  Sunlight can cause fading to the natural color of a piece of furniture.  Also the shifting occasionally can assist with airflow in the home and to the furniture in question.  These are considerations that any professional upholstery cleaning company should be able to answer and provide useful tips.  Leather cleaning is altogether a totally different animal, literally.  In most cases it is not a wise idea to try to cleaning leather furniture yourself.  We've gotten everything from fading, to a spot that got worse, to rubbing out the coloring, and harsh chemicals that completely destroy the sofa.  It is always a wise thing to contact a professional sofa cleaner to get the job done right.  Don't waste time and/or money trying to do this one yourself.  You paid a lot for the furniture, why not pay what it takes to maintain it.

An added benefit is regular vacuuming of the pieces.  Dust can settle and cause all kinds of problems if the sofa sectional or the couch is not vacuumed occasionally, at least once a week.  It's little things like this that can make the world of a difference between a long lasting piece of furniture or one that needs to be tossed quickly because of neglect or abuse.  So, give it some thought.  Call the professionals of upholstery cleaning and be happy that you did, when the furniture you own continues to last and look great after a deep steam cleaning process.

Sofa, Couch and Leather Cleaning 773-885-8528

Sofa cleaning, Couch cleaning, Leather furniture cleaning.  Believe it or not all three can be different.  A couch usually carries an embroidered design and is weaved with nice patterns and a very classy look.  A sofa is a long upholstered seat for at least three people and up to 9 in some instances, like sectional sofas.  And of course, leather is a fabric all in itself that begs a totally different type of cleaning method altogether.

Thus, when your furniture needs a good deep cleaning service, you need a professional who can recognize the difference and cleaning it accordingly.  There are so many products on the market for cleaning synthetics and those that are designed to clean fine upholstery and high grade leather.  Use of the wrong one on either can be disastrous.  That is why it is not recommended that the customer try to do it themselves.  There are books upon books and readings about DIY (do it yourself) and as explicit and as carefully written as these may be, they don't afford you the experience and training necessary in getting the job done right and not destroying your piece.

And let's face it.  No chemical is across the board at cleaning, de-staining or deodorizing and sanitizing every piece of fabric and design out there.  That's why we have different solutions for different fabrics.  With that said if you are looking to "RESOLVE" your issue by using one type of chemical for every fabric or even every single stain, you are being misled.  Sometimes the problem is exacerbated by using such sprays and compounds.  Sometimes, the customer has experienced fading, discoloration, or outright ruin of a fabric.  Is it the manufacturer's fault, that is the one who makes the spray?  Usually not.  Because we as consumers have a tendency toward a quick fix.  And sometimes we don't read the label.  We go by what we've seen on T.V.  NOT!!!  That is a big mistake because no chemical can handle everything.  It just goes to reason, different fabrics and weaves require different solutions to clean them.

The best thing to do is call the professional upholstery cleaner in your area and get answers to your questions, and get the job done professionally by someone who is certified and trained.  You can rest assured that the upholstery cleaning specialist will get your furniture, whether it be a sofa, couch, ottoman, loveseat, sectional sofa or leather furniture looking its absolute best and smelling fresh too.

So, be careful with the do it yourself thinking.  In some cases it could be great.  In others, DIY could spell disaster.

Sofa Cleaning (Chicago) 773-885-8528

Image
We get all kinds of calls for professional sofa cleaning and for upholstery cleaning of various fabrics and weaves.  Of all the calls for sofa cleaning services, no fabric is asked about more than microfiber sofa cleaning.  Microfiber actually responds quite well to professional steam cleaning and spot treatment alike.  By comparison, microfiber is 1/100th the diameter of a human hair and 1/20th the diameter of a strand of silk. The most common types of microfibers are made from polyesters, polyamides (e.g., nylon, kevlar, nomex, trogamide), or a conjugation of polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene (Prolen).  What does this mean to the consumer and the cleaning professional?  A fabric that responds well to cleaning applications.  Since many towels are made in the microfiber genre they can be used repeatedly without having to discard them.  Thus, they hold up well over time’s wear and tear.  The same with the microfiber sofa.

Leather Upholstery Cleaning

Because of the chemistry of the synthetic materials put together, they respond well to wine spills, pop, crayon, and other potentially nasty stains.  It turns out that out of every 10 calls received for professional upholstery cleaning, at least 6 of those calls are related to a microfiber fabric for cleaning.  If the furniture you need cleaning is done by a professional who is certified and trained, it will come out looking almost like new.  There are still some stains that are a bit tougher to deal with than most, that is pet stains and pet odors.  No fabric is completely fool-proof when it comes to pet treatment needs.  But, still in all microfiber responds to the challenge well.  The microfiber sofa is the cleaning tech’s best friend.  Why?  Because like a true friend, it responds when called upon to do so.
