In the world of sofa cleaning, couch cleaning, or leather furniture cleaning your choice of chemicals to clean is endless.  But, which ones will work best for your fabric?  That is the question that faces the trained and certified professional upholstery cleaner.  In determining which one to us he might want to spot test an area of the fabric first to see how that fabric will respond to cleaning.  He must be very careful not to overuse the product in testing just in case there might be adverse reactions in the fabric.  A good technician who has been cleaning furniture professionally for a long period of time, can look and feel a fabric and tell the best solution to use on its surface to bring about a vibrant, bright, cleaning and fresh smelling sofa or couch.  Generally, most fabrics on the market today can handle steam cleaning.  Some fabrics might be a bit more sensitive and shouldn’t be given moisture at all.  Most natural blends fall into this category, cottons, silks, wools, etc.  Even some leather furniture depending on the bonding and the fiber should be handled free of moisture if possible.  It certainly takes a trained technician to put it together right to make your furniture look nice and new and for the cleaning to last.

Should you use Scotch-guard or furniture protector?  It certainly does help in every way you can imagine.  What protector does is provide a layer of insurance.  What do I mean by that?  It is the first line of attack against spotting and stains.  Instead of the spill or what have you leaking into the precious fibers of your sofa or couch, the protector acts as a first line of defense in that it absorbs or stops the spill from penetrating beneath, causing deeper wounds if you will in your furniture.  This works especially well, if you have kids, pets, and just the regular everyday traffic flow from visitors and/or guests.

The application of protector may cost a little bit more, but it is well worth the effort in the end.  Your sofa or couch can be bombarded by so many different outside factors, weather, temperature, humidity, sunlight, human touch, animal deposits, hair, and the list goes on and on.  While protector is not completely fool-proof, it certainly does assist in keeping your furniture looking its best.  It’s like paying that 25 cents at the meter when parking so that you don’t get a $100 fine.  When protector is in place it keeps your costs for maintenance very low.  It doesn’t hurt also to regularly remove your pillows and vacuum the entire area to keep dust and debris from formulating.
